The above sclera photo of a left upper quadrant shows two distinct enzyme metabolism dysfunction (EMD) signs. The sign appears as a squiggly line hooked at the end, with a fine line continuing on the from the hook toward the iris. Common symptoms involved with this sign are low energy levels, ongoing headaches and a fading memory or foggy head.

This client has an inherited liver function problem, which is most likely the cause of the EMD signs appearing in his sclera’s. A blood test in this circumstance would be beneficial in showing potentially elevated liver enzymes. This client is young and fit, and has changed his diet and lifestyle behaviours considerably, so he should see his liver enzyme count improve and the EMD lines fade accordingly without too much trouble.
