Located superiorly in this right medial sclera quadrant are distinct ‘Heat Bubbles’. Heat bubbles generally occur when the body is trying to fight of an invader (eg. viral or parasitic infection – most commonly the protozoa parasite) by causing the body’s temperature to rise in hopes of burning it off. Unfortunately, this heat can often cause damage to surrounding tissues and organs. The heat bubbles seen in this quadrant are located in the areas of the mouth and tonsils and are quite large. Symptoms may include fevers, night sweats or abnormally excessive sweating as a result of the heat, as well as throat or mouth inflammation or infection.
